    September 14

    Week of September 14

    • Unit 1 math test will be on Wednesday
    • No School Friday because teachers will be grading the benchmark tests
    • Please check your child’s backpack on Thursdays for school papers and information.
    • Calling all Volunteers: I am looking for some parents, grandparents, aunts uncles etc to help some students with math facts and reading around 3:10 -3:30 a couple days a week. Details will be worked out with individual volunteers.  This would be a great way to get some kids small group intense instruction. Please e-mail me if you are interested. (Heather_Jackson@dpsk12.org) THANKS!!

    Homework:

    Math:

    Due Tuesday:  copy

    Due Wednesday: copy

    Due Thursday:  copy

    No School Friday

Due Monday: copy, double sided.  The kids need to pick one side to do.  They need to pick the "just right" level for them.  I have talked to them about what this means.  I happily had some students ask me if they could do both sides.

    • We will start Unit 2 on Monday.  This unit focuses on addition, subtraction and multiplication of decimals.  That is why we have been reviewing those operations with whole numbers the last few days.

    Spelling and Literacy Homework:

Due Tuesday: Unit 3 first page in spelling book or packet

Due Wednesday: Unit 3 second page in spelling book or packet and study for Thursday's test

Due Thursday: copy  (spelling test today)

Students take a pre-test the first day of every week.  They should be using the pre-test as a study guide for the week.  Please ask them to see their pre-test.  Look for spelling pattern mistakes to make them more efficient at studying. For example you may notice that your child always misses words with an “I before e” pattern, or words with double consonant patterns.  It is better to learn spelling rules and patterns then to just memorize words, though some words are just memorization.

Reading log is due this Thursday 9/17.  Then students can start working on next weeks log this weekend. Parents need to sign the log. Every week students need to be reading 120 -150 minutes minimum.
