Homework: Math: Due Tuesday: SL 3.8
Spelling/Literacy Copy double sided
Reading Log: The reading log will be due Monday November 2. (This is different then normal) The students are to read 180-200 minutes over this short week and the break. Many of them will be bringing home book group books to finish or sequels. This should give them plenty to read over the break. Ask your child which book they have been reading in class. The students could also read any of the books on the list below over break. They are all great books!
The four book groups were: 1. City of Ember 2. Holes 3. The Shakespeare Stealer 4. The White Giraffe
Each book has several sequels except Holes which had one “sequel” Small Steps. I provided the students with quite a few sequel copies but did not have enough for each student to bring one home over the break. Most of the sequels are available in the library, a local bookstore or The Bookies bookstore on Colorado. The Bookies has a great selection of kids and teen books. A few of the sequels are newer and are only available in hardback. Two are movies but are somewhat different then the books.
Happy Reading, Ms. Jackson

Homework: Math: Due Tuesday: SL 3.4 (We skipped 3.3 for now) Due Wednesday: SL 3.5 Due Thursday: SL 3.6 Due Friday: SL 3.7 I might slow down and throw in a copy review sheet one or two days this week. 90% of the student need help remembering how to measure angles with a protractor. If you can help a bit with this at home that would be great!
Spelling and Literacy Homework: Unit 10 compound words and Latin week 3 Due Tuesday: first page in spelling book p. 73 or packet (one side in packet) Due Wednesday: second page in spelling book or packet (2 sides in packet) Due Thursday: copy and study for Friday's test. The packet words for the test are the third column this week plus any words missed on the pre-test for a total of 25-30 words. Due Friday: copy This is another tough unit so students will have to study extra this week.
Students take a pre-test the first day of every week and I send it home with them that day. They should be using the pre-test as a study guide for the week. Please ask them to see their pre-test. Look for spelling pattern mistakes to make them more efficient at studying. For example you may notice that your child always misses words with an “I before e” pattern, or words with double consonant patterns. It is better to learn spelling rules and patterns then to just memorize words, though some words are just memorization. Also look for the pattern that the book and the packet focus’s on.
Reading Log: Students reading logs are due every Friday morning. The students are to read an average of 120-150 minutes per week. They then start a new log Friday after school.
